I guess my mileage varied, so to speak. Of course, I have the bullet nose
starter and compression fit ring gear, so that probably makes a difference,
but once I have the starter unbolted and disconnected, I am able to to get
it vertical, nose down, and it will drop down past the exhaust system to the
floor without disconnectiong anything else, excepet of course the throttle
linkage which I usually manage to knock off. I think I have a stock exhaust
manifold and down pipe.
Putting it back in I was able to get that nut started by holding it place
with one finger until I could get a a few threads to catch and then hold it
with an open end wrench, but that was before I put this new transmission in
which has a thicker bell housing, so I may no longer be able to get my
finger in there.
