Worst case, the cylinder with the broken rings will pump enough oil to knock
when you can't hear it (oil has a terrible octane rating) which will
eventually break the piston. Lots of little metal pieces circulating all
through the engine ... if it doesn't turn the rod loose to make holes in
other things.
But most likely it won't hurt anything.
It's possible to change the rings without removing the engine from the car
... if you work diligently you can start the job on Saturday morning and
take a nice drive on Sunday.
And I might even have a couple of used but usable rings laying around here
that you can have, if you'll tell me what bore you're running.
