Actually, the extra leaf is supposed to be on the DRIVER'S side to account
for the extra weight with one person in the car

Aha, another TR4 axle under a TR3 !  They ain't "all the same" !

The extra leaf is supposed to be on the passenger's side, to make the car
more nearly level with only a driver.
