Actually, the reidentification the orange tag allowed was of the year.
Apparantlly, a number of Triumphs remained unsold after the model year, so
the state gave the dealers a one time opportunity to change the model year.
At least that is what I was told by a guy that owned a Triumph dealership
back then. Near as I can tell from surveys on this list (I never did spring
for the heritage certificate), my TR3A was built in 1959, but it is
registered as a 1961 and the orange plate has STC-61 stamped on it.
