Since we are beating this dead horse, up until WWII American beer was
brewed like beers from all over Europe: Barley, Hops yeast and water. But
during the war the barley was too important a food crop to "waste" on beer
so beer formulas were developed that used the grains available: rice and
corn. Todays American beers (the Bud's, Millers, etc) are still brewed to
this style which has taken hold of the market and for a while crowded out
the more traditional beers. But the older traditional beers are making a
comeback. And for that I am grateful.
