>I am giving some thought to installing an electric fuel pump on my 74 TR6
with Strombergs. I have the electrical installation info, but I thought
one
of the big three would sell an electric pump. I see TRF sells blanking
plates.
What is a good pump to use and where can you buy it?
Where and how did you mount it?
What is the fuel line pressure to be?

Jay, I installed an electric pump in my TR6 a few years back when my stock
pump started misbehaving. I made my own blanking plate (because I could)
and I mounted the pump in the same location as the stock pump as an
expediency. The plan was/is to mount it in the trunk at a later date.
Another expediency was to wire the pump up to the white wire on my coil (my
71 has a 12 volt coil so this option is not open to you) with a plan to put
in a fused circuit at some point.
Well, last Saturday, after a couple of years of temporary configuration, I
finally got around to rewiring the pump. I installed an impact switch I
salvaged from a Ford Probe in the wreckers ($5.00) and wired the pump to
the green (fused) circuit. I now feel better about the wiring, anyway.
Someday, I will relocate the pump to the trunk. The problem here is I have
to drain the tank first. I have, on the shelf, three vibration isolators
(resilient mounts) to isolate the pump noise (in fact, I've had them so
long that I may not be able to find them <g>) but the pump works well
enough where it is so I feel no pressure to get on with it.
I used a generic pump from J.C, Whatnot and it works just fine. I don't
know what pressure it puts out but if it is 5 PSI instead of the
recommended 2 PSI I have no problems and my float valves are good against
the extra pressure. But you might want to consider buying a pressure
regulator anyway.
Cheers and good luck
Dave
