Thanks to everyone who replied to my original question.
The answer is, that you CAN reverse the polarity on the pump, but NO it does
not effect the direction of flow.
The new pump is working just fine. Drove the car to work today as (can you
believe it) the 2001 Toyota Highlander was in the shop for the past two
days. Why? Because they can't get the parts for it!
