If it is BSP, then a brass plug in the equivalent NPT size should work well enough to plug the hole. "Close to 1/2 inch" would be 1/4 inch, BSP is 19 tpi while NPT is 18 tpi. But, for the thickness of an intake manifold, shouldn't make much difference.
