Greetings:
I use a 12 ton shop press from Harbor Freight ($79 when I bought it). It
will also press in/out bushings, and all the other jobs a press can do. You
just have to make sure the spring has no chance of popping out-tie it off
SECURELY. If you can't figure out how to do it without risk of injury, you
should leave it to professionals. Most of the cheap spring compressors are
an accident waiting to happen.
The press makes easy work of changing shocks as long as it's done safely.
