Larry, Mark, etc.
Still no snow here in central NY. There was some slush earlier in Oct. but I
missed it. I was in Yuma Az where the temp was in the 90's. I have put both the
TR3 and the T140V to sleep for the winter. Batteries are in the cellar getting
a charge about once a week.
Since it is winter and I have no cars or bikes to restore this season, I am
attempting to rebuild a old TR3A transmission from my previous 1959 TR3A which
was destroyed by a FORMER friend. This transmission was cracked at the bell
housing. This was a wonderful transmission, shifted like a dream. I have
inspected all parts and there is absolutely no wear or chipped gears. I have a
replacement case, so as soon as I can get the replacement case cleaned I will
begin the re-build. I dont know if I will ever use this transmission because
the one I am running now is from a 1957 (TS15593L) which was the original
"parts" car for my 1958. The 57 transmission is fine, just have to take it slow
from 1st to 2nd probably due to a warn syncro.
The previous owner of the 58 accumulated many parts including 2 other complete
transmissions plus parts of others. I have 2 NEW syncro cups still in the box
which I will use during the rebuild.
When I get the transmission done, I will probably start restoring some of the
spare fenders and aprons up in my garage attic. You never know when you may
need a spare part.
By the way to all Veterans.... Have a great Veterans Day.
