Carl, when I did my recent engine rebuild, I got an original scroll type
seal and the alignment tools from Moss. My old seal leaked a little bit.
After using the tool, I found that the new seal doesn't leak at all. I
did cheat a bit though. when putting in the sealing strips for the sides
of the rear bearing mount, I cut them into about 1.5" long pieces. First
I would squirt some Permatex into the slot, then I would push the strip
in as far as I could. Then more Permatex, then another strip, until the
last strip wouldn't go in all the way. At that point, I cut off the end,
and cleaned up the Permatex that came out near the seal. I think that
that's probably where a lot of cars leak.
