Tires for the TR6

I am looking for tires for my 1975 TR6. I do not want to put Michelin Redlines 
on the car for many reasons. What are other choices, the emphasis being on 
safety and handling? The size is also a problem. I have wire wheels and CAN get 
185/15 tires, but for $160 a pop. I was told 205/70 is another viable tire, 
good performance, and cheaper. Also more readily available. They are supposed 
to fit on the wheels and will work on the car. HELP, please!!!
