Hi John,

I'm approaching the final stage in my TR-4 rebuild and I belive I bought my
piston/liner set from BPNW. It's been a while, but the deal you're talking
about sounds like the ones I got. Although I have yet to fire it up I do
have some observations to share on the set.

First, we're not talking about formula 1 engines here. The pistons I
replaced were almost identical to the ones I got in my kit, the only
differences I noticed were the old ones had kind of a small vertical groove
on the side (oil?), and they were slightly lighter than the new ones.

Two things I did were to balance them so they would all weigh the same
ammount, and I polished them too. Other than that I don't really think
there's too much of a story on these unless you're building a race engine.

I did get a copy of a period manual from one of the listers via PDF files,
and that's been very helpful. It's got lots of period tuning tips and
tricks, and some very interesting aftermarket items that were once
avaible... (anyone out there have one of the LawrenceTune cross flow heads?)
Sure would be great if someone would reproduce these items as I know they're
avaiable for the MGB and Healy folks!!

Have fun rebuilding your engine, and don't forget to have the machine shop
press in your new cam bearings (don't ask me how I know this) before you
start assembling anything.

Cheers,

John Matthews
