You're going about this the wrong way. You absolutely do not tell your wife
that you are buying a tool! This can lead to all sorts of problems, the
word jewelry usually comes to mind during such situations.
You tell her that you are buying a safety device for the transmission. This
tool ( ahem, device) will protect both of you from the
inconvenience or DANGER of breaking down, caused by metal shavings in the
transmission oil. This device will remove any impurities from the
transmission oil.
Not bad for the first draft! Feel free to embellish as much as needed.
