Brian, the main reason is that the Bentley manual suggests doing so. Perhaps
that is overkill but I've never changed bearings before so thought I'd
follow the book initially. Your suggestion will make me reconsider, thanks
for the info.
As for "very special super strong" bolts, I wonder... I called TRF and asked
where the main cap bolts are listed. The person just said they use part
number HB1024 which is a 7/16 UNF x 3" bolt in the general fasteners section
of the catalog and apparently Grade 5 steel. I guess I'll just reuse the
ones I take out.
As for the rod cap bolts those are listed in the catalog and are pretty
pricey at $5.95 (US$) each (vs $1.55 for the seemingly generic main cap
bolts). Should the con rod cap bolts be reused as well or are they more
stressed than main cap bolts?
