Well, I finally got around to taking the wiper motor apart on my 73 MK2
Stag this weekend. The problem was that the wipers did not self park, but
stopped wherever they were when the switch was turned off. It turns out
the parking switch ( the yellow/white plug sitting on top of the wiper
housing) is broken internally.

However, when I disassembled the wiper motor, I discovered that all of
the new grease I had put in the unit was literally cooked. Black and
burnt smelling. I had totally cleaned the motor unit and reassembled the
unit not 3 months ago, and assembled it using fresh silicone grease.

The motor was hot to the touch even when not running. Any ideas on what
could be causing this new problem?
