I'm perpetually keeping a supply of large cardboard as permanent dropsheets
under the cars in my garage (nobody who buys a major appliance in my
neighborhood goes unnoticed), which helps protect the floor surface. Not the
most attractive, but effective. JD.

crawl under it for a while. Afterwards, I go into the house and
