It's no surprise to most here that the bowl plug o-rings are tight, or
that the plug itself is a bit brittle, since it sits in gasoline for
months on end. However, if the plug can be re-inserted in the bowl
without breaking the tangs, then the o-ring can be slipped onto it
without breaking the tangs. If one is a bit uncertain about that, I
suggest lightly greasing the o-ring with a little bearing grease or
light oil to prevent binding, then carefully slipping the o-ring into
place and re-inserting the plug. If fitting the o-rings breaks the plug,
it probably can't be re-installed in the bowl, anyway.
