Nope, the EGR thread (the one which goes into the head) is definitely not
tapered. I remember this because I had a heck of a time finding a set screw
with the right thread (in order to plug the hole left by my now removed EGR
valve). As I said, I think it is a 3/4" UNF but I would have to check this
weekend to confirm that if anyone is interested.
You will note that the EGR valve uses a jam nut to "lock in" required
position since the pipe to the intake manifold is a solid piece (ie. it
would not flex to allow various positions). It would be hard to use a jam
nut with a tapered (NPT) thread.
