Tony and Brad:

Yes, you need the OD output shaft, the OD adapter plate, and different
speedo cable for the addition of overdrive to a non-overdrive box.
Hopefully, the overdrive unit will come complete with all of the other
little necessary bits such as solenoid, pump cam, springs, etc. Look at
the parts book for more info. If it doesn't, try to find a COMPLETE
overdrive box (cheaper with dead gears!!!!) for the swap. The cost of
such a gearbox should be less than the cost of the NEW OD output shaft.

Not all overdrive TR4s had the 4.1 gears, and not all non-overdrive TR4s
had the 3.7 gears. Years ago during my university period, I had one of
the latter with the 4.1 gears. It was great fun in town but was buzzy on
the highway. That axle eventually went into my TR3A (with overdrive).
Then both town fun and highway comfort.
