Sylvain,
I might be biased, but my definitive recommendation would be a
TR8 if You want a TR. If You'd be happy with a smaller car [not
that much smaller actually...] then the car to recommend is a
Spitfire [a Mk3 or a 1500] since they are cheaper [usually] and
very easy to restore/service.

Both are sturdy and way undervalued by the general public, not
to say undervalued by the car buffs too. So getting one in a
nice shape at a reasonable price should be easy.
The Spitfire Mk3 have an 1300 engine and they are the last and
most developed of the early Spits. The later ones are more
complicated with emissions stuff etc. The later 1500 is more
posh in its appearence compared to the earlier ones. [The MkIV
in NA form is something to avoid due to its anemic - so called
engine...]

The TR8 has got the best engine in any of the TRs - and!! the
engine is still in production! In slightly modified form, but
still. You should also remember the '8 has got a complete engine
- all the cylinders are there. Not only some of them... ;-)
Go for it!
Regards
/Odd
