Well...

I'd second Joe's opinion that the Spitfire is probably your best bet.
Sure, it's not a TR, but is' Triumph, and they're cheaper.

If you're not mechanically inclined (or do not wish to be) I suggest you
wait until you've got more money; then buy a car that has been taken care
of. If you buy a neglected or broken one (as I did) you will become a
good mechanic, or very depressed.

I have a TR4. It has a very solid engine, frame, drivetrain. In my case
the body was the "last thing left to do". And it NEEDED doing. I'm still
not finished. However I was able to learn most of the car's history; it's
had a new frame, engine, interior, electrics. I need to fiddle with the
suspension and alignment.

These cars are NOT good investments if you don't like to tinker. They
NEED attention. All of 'em.

You might have more fun with one of those "other" brands of cars. I won't
suggest any, lest I be pelted with small rocks by the other members of the
Triumph clan ;-)

They have their share of problems. From what I know the mechanics are not
as good as they should have been; probably more due to the labor troubles
at the factory than the inherent design. It'll still require lots of
tinkering.
