Ed,
If I can remember back that far (5 weeks seems like 5 months) when the car was
running and I was driving it to work every day, at speed (2000 rpm) about 40
psi with castrol GTX 20-50. But I noticed my oil pressure getting lower
throughout the season, probably due to the torn diaphragm in one carb. that I
did not know I had.
As far as the mileage on the engine, I have no idea due to the fact that the
odometer has been stuck at 34k since I've owned it (speedometer works but
odometer doesn't).
I think my gray layer of muck on the bottom of he oil pan was there because I
drained the engine while it was cold and had been sitting for a week or so.
This gave the oil time to settle and the muck time to settle too. If the oil
was hot it would have mixed with the sediment and probably would have been
undetected.
