If it's carbs... when you first open the garage... go straight to the
car, and smell the front grill... and then pop the bonnet... and give a
wiff to the odor escaping.... if it's coming from under there.... 
you'll smell it...

If it is the SU's...  sometimes the float level is wrong... and the
height of the fuel is HIGHER than the jet level... and fuel just slowly
collects in the intake manifold... this really stinks up the engine
compartment!  This is easily overlooked... as the air filter can hide
the dilema!    Something to look for... along with other leaks as
suggested.
