I'm pretty sure the change to this column and its related switches was
actually a cost cutting, or "commonising" move on the part of BL, as the
column is essentially that of the TR7. Otherwise, the Spitfire and TR6
were the last cars to use the column, etc. originally designed for the
Herald.
