Removing 1/2" hex head in MC

I found an inch long 1/2" nut in a discount hardware store.  I have no
idea what its real role in life is.  If you want it, send me your
address and I'll mail it to you.

PS.  Thanks everyone who helped out with advice geeting the secondary
plunger out of my MC, all ideas worked great.
