The problem with the TR7 is one of reputation. At the time the TR7 was
being assembled, Triumph was having no end of labor problems. The car
design was not bad, but the cars litterally came off of the assembly
line in non-operating condition. Although these problems were eventually
eliminated (by assembling the cars elsewhere and closing the original
plant; kind of drastic), the reputation and people's perception that
this was not a "true TR" because of the design had already had it's
effect.

I think any TR7 still running must have long ago had most of it's
problems, if any, sorted out.

As for the perception that it's not a tru TR, well, it isn't from one
standpoint. All previous TR cars were derivatives of the TR2. The TR7/8
were completely different. However, Triumph badged it a TR. That makes
it a TR.

It's a different driving experience than the other TRs though.

That doesn't stop me from oggling a TR8 that I've seen for sale though.
