Brad I've got two hardtop frames I've built for my Spitfire and Midget tops, which have hooks on them and crank up on pulleys into the cellar roof. Construct a simple H frame of 2 inch square timber which you turn sideways thru 90 degrees. This means the two longitudinals that have now become laterals to support the weight beneath the rear window and at the B post. Then install two timbers at either end of the H running forwards and in line with the screen rail. Two uprights at the screen end and a crosspiece to link them together. This stops the top 'tipping.' I then strap the hardtops to the frame using simple suitcase straps. Just make sure the pullies are large diameter and fully anchored to the ceiling. I use rope with minimal nylon to resist stretch John Macartney Now in the same museum as the cars he sold when they were new |
