Jon,
Your misfire may be nothing more than one or more defective high tension
leads. All my 'babies' caused me the same problem after long lay-ups. In
the end, it all boiled down to those useless carbon impregnated cotton plug
leads, residual damp in the dizzy cap and on the ends of the suppressors.
It seems that for as long as the engine is run regularly, conductivity is
OK. Then a lay-up for whatever reason, and the gremlins and crawlers get to
work. Symptoms I had, were everything fine at tickover (or seemed to be)
but soon as you start pushing that pedal down, the little I won't-I won't-I
won't gremlin raises its bonny little head. I invested in a reel of
brightly coloured HT lead with a good solid copper core, new suppressors
etc, a thorough clean and drying out operation in other areas plus a few
discreet squirts of WD40 in critical places. Haven't had any problems since
then. Usual disclaimers........
