This raises an interesting point. Mike Costigan would be the first to
agree that change points to Triumph models were not a clear cut affair,
with "old-type" fittings being fitted to vehicles long after they had
been officially superceded. I've made a point of studying this kind of
detail over the last few years, eg, the small indicator/side lights were
supposedly fitted on 1200s only up to chassis no.GA83026,(according to
the factory parts list) which would be mid to late 1962. My current
daily driver is a 1964 1200, chassis no.GA150626DL - this has the small
lights from new! I would even go as far as to say that ALL the original
(UK) 1200s I have seen upto late 1964 have had the small sidelights!
Basically, I wouldn't necessarily say that having supposedly obsolete
parts fitted to your car is an export oddity, it's just the way Triumph
did things!
