Hi Bob - yes it can be done, but with an awful lot of work,
patience, and scraped knuckles.  I did mine this way on a
1958 TR3A that had just been painted, and I didn't want to
remove the front apron and possibly scratch the paint.  We
removed the fan, fan extension, water pump, thermostat housing
assembly, the front cross member, etc.  It takes hours and
after you have done all of the above you have to play with
getting the rad out from every angle - but it will come.
As I recall, we ended up with minor bending of a few of the
fins, but these were easily straightened once the repaired
rad had gone back in.  All of the manuals that I have seen
say it can't be done, but with perseverance you can do it.
