Glad to hear it is going to a good home. Be sure to let me know when
you are coming in as I wouldn't mind looking it over for you before the trip.
If I remember correctly it was a pretty reliable car.
Most of the work Micheal did was having an intake manifold made to take
the 175's, I believe a head job, and a new carpet kit. I do remember the
engine compartment being rather oily/dirty so it would not hurt to take it
to a carwash before leaving town and blasting off the engine so you can tell
if you are having any problems on the road.
As far as spares for the trip all I usually carry is a spare set of
points/condenser/rotor, oil, and silicone brakefluid. All I ever seem to use
is the oil! You might look at the fanbelt and take a spare to make you feel
better in those long stretches of West Texas. The only thing else that can
give you trouble is u-joints but that is not worth the trouble to prepare
for on the road. I have driven from Wyoming to San Antonio Texas on bad
u-joints before and made it home. And last but not least make sure there is
a jack and air in the spare.
It will take some bodywork to get the bonnet right but the rest of the
car is pretty straight. I think with lots of elbo grease you will have a
nice car.
Best of luck,
Richard Ceraldi
