Richard - You're scaring me. What's this about bad one-way bearings in late
Spitfire transmission overdrives?
Last year I put a single rail transmission with over drive in my MKIV. It is
fine except under high torque situations. I find if I rev the engine and dump
the clutch to "get some rubber" it acts as if the clutch is slipping and won't
go. Also if I am accelerating hard thru second gear around 4000 rpm it will
slip for just a second and then grab and continue on OK. The clutch is new the
pressure plate and throw out bearing are all new.
Up to now I have been baffled.
I am copying this message and reply to John Kipping in hopes that he might
respond to the Triumph list with whatever information he might have on this
matter. In all my years of driving Spitfires this is the first time I have ever
heard of this problem.
I urge anyone else out there in cyber space that has information on this
subject to please share it with us.

Morning,
The problem does sound as though it could be overdrive related, apparently some
late O/D had a faultly one-way bearing fitted, I had a friend whose car had
these problems, and it was just like a dud clutch, I can't think of a way to
test it without ripping the gearbox out, it may be worth giving John Kipping a
ring for more advice(01203 645333), sorry I can't be of more help
Cheers
