Youıre doing it right, actually. Problem is, you shouldnıt have used the
hammer, nor should you ever press directly on the yoke with the vice. Reason
is, the yoke can get out of true, and if this happens, even ever so slightly
(you canıt SEE this problem), then your new u-j cups wonıt go all the way in,
you wonıt be able to install your new circlips, and the new joints will have
varying degrees of stiffness, depending on their Şun-trueness!Ş
My answer? Farm it out. FARM IT OUT!! Go to a drivetrain shop. Yes, there
are such things. The place I found repaired the crappy job I did on both my
prop shaft u-jıs, balanced the shaft and painted it for ... $50 bucks. And
they did it in one day.
