Hi,
a word to all those, who really think about wider tires on their cars!
Where is the reason for these big things?
BTW, did you think about buying a tractor or a Jeep???<G>
And, Ken, why are you looking to keep the original diameter? You can't
be afraid of changing your overall gear ratio, because, as I assume:
you can't even use 3rd gear (without OD!)! 2*<g> OBTW, whats your speed
limit?:-) (Oh, how I love to say those nasty things)
Again serious:
Ken, did you think about your suspension and frame?
In the mid80's we built a street TR6 with 215 and 225 * something, as long
as I remember on widened chrome spokes'.
The suspension was worn every season....!
Additionally the frame, in fact all IRS-frames( TR4A rigid axle too ) is
known to be very weak (if you don't believe , ask your racers!). You shouldn't
even use nylon bushes on them!
Better try the newer polyurethanes.
Don't know if you mentioned my choice(and the choice of some others here)?
We are driving with:
205 / 65 * 15 and Firestone Firehawk Tires, these fit easy into the fenders
and look fine on Michelotti and Karmann cars.
We all discovered that this works with handling and overall gearing.
Although our genuine TR6 diff ratio is 3.45 (!! + OD!!)
(that will mean: 6000RPM correspond to 160mls/h!! (Oops, I forgot the wind
resistance)some of us changed the axle to 3.7.
I use the same, i.e.3.7 + OD on my TR4, thinking of changing the "back"
to 4.1 to gain acceleration, but I'm not shure about, because our top speeds on
the motorway reach (not easily) 120mls/h.
That should be enough showing-off!(only for now):-)

P.S. Is there someone interested in a table and /or diagramm that covers
his/her own overall gearing?
I did that for mine, and it helped to find a new tire size.

Please let us know if these fit on your TR6 without
suspension or fender clearance problems and/or modifications.
I've been considering trying to find and buy either 16x7 or 17x7
wheels. (A 225/60R16 and 235/50R17 are both very close in
overall diameter to original 185R15 tires.) I am assuming that
such wheels would surely fit if the 15x7 wheels do with a tire
of close to original diameter.

If you are looking to keep original overall diameter, the following

You can check http://www.tirerack.com for more tire choices than
you will find at any single store. I did a quick check there, and
there are some choices in at least Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, and
Pirelli...
