Allright Ken,
think I got you.
Let's have a try to help you without those "Big Foots".
After a look into my gearing tables, it seems as you have got the 4.1 axle
installed and what is even more worse you don't own an OD, do you?
Possible changes:
- Put an OD into the car:
You'll get a speed increase of appox. 25% (for any revel's)!
The speed of 70mls/h will "occure" slightly over 3000RPM, with 205/65 15.
- Change your axle ratio to 3.7:
10% speed increase and 70mls/h at 3500RPM, with 205/65 15.
We didn't talk about prices, but IMHO they're here at the same level.
7" wide alloys aren't cheap...+ every year a new suspension 7500mls are enough
to
ruin it, I think.
- cornering capability:
Just try something around my size, it's really amazing to change from 80 to
65.
- engine wear:
You try kidding me, do you? You were talking about a RPM difference of below
200 RPM. If your engine makes trouble on that RPM's, you better put your money
into the engine, instead buying wheels.
- reduced ride height: You tried it again, only 1/2" reduce.
Now something to our situation:
My lbc is used every day, winter too. It's not only fast, it`s our family car.
Used for holiday with a small caravan behind or to transport nearly everything.
In the last years I exceeded mostly 10000mls/y, only '93 was less, due to a
blown
engine, right in the middle of France.
And don't think all roads are well here, especially the streets in the former
East Germany are awful.
Here is a table, maybe you got it, you get the speed in relation to axle ratio
and OD. I hope you can read it.
