Spitfire Exhaust Man Gasket?

I have a 1979 Spitfire with possibly not a 1979 engine. ( I have points, not 
electronic 
ignition!) I believe there is a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket. I hear a 
lot of 
excess noise on revving the engine and don't know how to diagnose whether it's 
a gasket, 
or a bad header. Any advice?
