In Haynes and Bentley the same point is made about removing the rear axle
shafts intact, that is, ensuring that the sliding shafts are not separated.
Of course, this means that the stone guard for the u-joint at the diff end
must be manipulated to get it in and out. Why is it so important not to
separate the sliding shafts?
