Hi fellow TR folk-

I have attentively followed the discussion, both pro and con, of several
different candidates for the best tow vehicle. I feel that I must nominate
two additional vehicles which have proven track records for hauling race
prepped lbc's all over the good ole US of A.
The first was my own choice, based upon need for power and a certain
"presence", of which it seemed to fill the bill. The vehicle was first
purchased in Detroit and used to tow a formula Vee. It then passed to the
second owner, who towed a Lotus Seven. I finally
bought it strictly for its towing abilities, and proceeded to tow a TR3 all
over the West Coast with it, racking up over 100,000 miles, mostly with about
3500 pounds of trailer behind it. The only shortcomings that I found with the
vehicle were a lack of storage space, rather limiting the amount of spares
you could bring along, and the fact that 1st gear was just a little too tall
(towing up the hill to Laguna Seca was always an iffy circumstance without a
good clear running start).

The second choice belongs to a friend of mine who used this vehicle to tow
his own TR3
(an SCCA National Champion, to boot) all over the country for several years.
I know for a fact that he has logged well over 200,000 miles flat-towing his
TR3 behind this well suited tow vehicle. The only modification he has made
(besides the tow hitch) was to add an overdrive for the ultimate gas economy.

Both these vehicles have served both well and long in the duties asked of
them and both he and I stand behind the choice and the result. Oh yeah, you
want to know what these
vehicles are ? The first a 1965 Shelby GT-350, and the second a 1967 XKE
Coupe.
