If the battery in the TR can't hold a charge at all, that's normal. Jumper
cables can't handle the 100-200 amps that the starter wants. Even the
heaviest cables don't have the contact area where you clip them on to
conduct that kind of current. You'll probably notice the clips on the ends
of the cable getting _very_ warm when you try to crank. They're intended
only to carry a few tens of amps of charging current to a dead battery.
Leave the Benz connected to the TR at high idle for a while and see if your
battery can hold enough charge to crank the engine. If not, you'll have to
swap betteries.
