Tim,
In addition to all the other good advice you have gotten, I would recommend
you prime the lubrication system before you start the engine. With oil in
the pan, I install a distributor that has the drive gear removed and drive
it with an electric drill. You can tell when the oil pressure builds up by
the rise in torque to drive the pump. This will insure that the pump, oil
passages, bearings and lifters are full before you start the engine.
