Could it be that Scott has the stock oil line to block adapter and someone (likely a previous owner or his mechanic) has replace the fiber gasket with an O-ring? It sounds like something stupid I would do in a pinch. It would seem that if no provisions were there for the O-ring it would be damaged and leak in short order.
