Scott,
Yes, the oil filter problem. Many use short filters, which I find to be
unsatisfactory from a performance standpoint. If you do NOT have the
original set up, which used NO O-rings, you probably have one designed
for remote mount filters or oil coolers. Some are better than others.
I have used the Ford Motorsport right angle adapter, which will hold a
full sized Ford Motorcraft FL-1A filter, unless you have headers. I have
enclosed a picture of it, and it does use O-rings, which have never
leaked. Once installed, it is never removed, and only the filter is spun
on and off, just like a real car.
The rear corner of the chassis motor mount needs to be rounded off a
bit, to clear the unit and prevent sharp edge puncture of the filter,
but this is a 5 minute job with a file.
A full size filter, especially one designed specifically for that
engine, and of good quality - like the Ford Motorcraft FL-1A is the one
to use. Pep Boys even sells this good filter as a loss leader.
The adapter, made by Ford, is well constructed, sturdy, and easy to
install. Filters just spin on/off, and the adapter is not removed. $50
is cheap to save your engine.
I have enclosed a picture of it. It is complete with genuine O-ring
racing seals, well made, and well worth the price. Unfortunately, the
list cannot receive attachments.
