well...i finally got the time to work on my Spitfire again last night and
tonight. As it stands right now i have the back end jacked up on stands and
the differential sitting ready to be put in. However...there is a catch.
It appears that the mounting plate on the front of the differential is
SLIGHTLY different that that of the one that was taken off of the car, thus
not allowing the differential to fit properly. Now here are my questions to
all of you:
1.) can i swap the two of these plates?
2.) (I am asuming that the question to #1 is yes), To get that plate off of
there, i need to remove the pinion flange. There is a meatl "bowl-like"
piece covering the pinion nut. HOw does that come off? Can i just wedge it
off with a screwdriver? Is that piece even necessary?
3.) once i pull that pinion flange off...what should i expect to find? Are
a bunch of other parts going fall out that need speacial care getting back
in?
Please advise.
If non of this makes sense i will be posting a picture of what i am talking
about tomorrow.
Also...this is a 1968 Spit MKIII attempting to hold a later model
differential.
Thank you all,
Discouraged David
