ISTR that you place the core plug in the opening convex out then strike them
with a ball peen hammer to cause them to expand into the hole in the block.
The finished result is either a flat or slightly concave core plug once it's
installed.
Installing them innitially concave out won't allow the plug to expand,
resulting in a loose fit that is more likely to leak.

Prior to installing some new core plugs I have been perusing my
Haynes manual and came across an anomaly. What a suprise I hear you say
!!!!!
Anyway, on one page it says to fit the core plugs with the convex facing
outwards, yet a picture a few pages along shows them installed concave
facing
outwards. Which one is right ? I have taken the old ones out of my engine
and
they were all concave facing outwards. Come to think of it most of the
Stanpart engines I have worked with all had them concave facing outwards.
But
at my age I am allowed to think strange thoughts.........
