The diaphram in the old pumps tends to go after
a while. Luckily, repro pumps are quite cheap,
I ordered one from Vickie Brit for just $20 for
my '72.
Actually, my factory pump died years ago and I
did the electronic switch. First thing I found
was that affordable pumps were quite loud (ticka!
ticka! ticka!) and quiet pumps were not affordable.
Second thing I found out was that electronic pumps
will overwhelm SU carbs, so then I had to go out
and buy a pressure regulator.
I put up with this for a couple years and finally
decided to go back to the factory mechanical pump.
Why? Because with the new, quieter muffler, I could
hear the sound of the pump over the engine.
