I've seen some good suggestions so far - I'd suggest
checking the routing of the fiuel line also. It sounds
unlikely, give the time of year, but I have had
several Spitfires that ran badly due to the fuel line
getting hot - the problem is often where the fuel line
runs across the front of the block. I've removed fuel
filters from the location after seeing the fuel
boiling in the filter housing...
