Glad you had a chance to take your spitfire for a spin!  

I had one thought regarding your loose steering, in my first spitfire (only
had it briefly, before finding another one in better condition), the
steering flex joint was worn out and loose giving me some freeplay at the
steering wheel.  Wonder if you could check yours to see how much play it
has.  Sometimes, all it takes is to tighten down the bolts on both ends.  

Those new tires should be fine, if the steering linkages (ball joints, rack)
are tight and camber, toe-in, etc are correct....

What size tires do you have. I put on 155r80/13's, new michelins. The car 
seems a little loose when rocking the steering back and forth. These are the

right size for the car. I have heard that a wider tire would not roll side
to 
side as much. If this is the problem. I am wondering if I should have gone
to 
a wider tire. recommendations?
