Congrats! Its great to get it out on the road. What year is your Spit? The
older cars, like my
'67 Mk.3 had no synchro in first, the only way to engage the gear while
moving is to double clutch, where you move the shifter from second to first
and as you do, you pause very slightly in neutral, lift the clutch pedal,
blip the gas to raise the RPMs ~1000 revs, and then depress the pedal and
slide it into first.
On my '67 the stock radial would be a 145SR13. I'm running 165SR13 and they
work fine, but the speedo's wrong.
