Almost - they are 10V, and although they are ignition switched, the supply
passes through a voltage regulator to fix the voltage at 10V. This prevents
the guages varying their readings as the exact battery voltage varies (i.e.
as a result of changing alternator output with engine speed).
There was a dedicated switched supply for the radio built into the wiring
loom, but this may have been lost or cut off somewhere in your cars history!
Have a look, however, there may be a wire hanging around behind the dash,
probably terminating in one half of an in-line fuse connector.
Failing that, you probably want to take a supply from the +ve leading INTO
the voltage regulator. You should find the voltage regulator trapped under
one of the nuts that holds the speedo in place - a small metal box with two
terminals on it.
